Ride Illinois, the statewide biking advocacy organization, created BikeSafetyQuiz.com with oversight from the Illinois Secretary of State and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The site includes quizzes for adult cyclists, kid cyclists, and also for car drivers and truck drivers interacting with cyclists.

The kid version - Ride Illinois Child Bicyclist Quiz - has 3 levels - bronze, silver, gold - with useful images to help kids learn. You can take the multiple choice quiz with your school age students. Older elementary school students may be able to answer most questions on their own. Younger siblings may need help, but they can definitely grasp many of the images, and know what is safe. If they choose incorrectly, the quiz explains the right answer.

For example, the simple image shown here helps kids learn which side of the road to ride on (if no sidewalk available). Another useful image shows where to watch for vehicles as bicyclists approach an intersection. Colorful images help the kids see and learn. Even your youngest riders will know many answers just by looking at the images. Of course, your help and guidance go a long way, too! And your child can earn a certificate of completion for each quiz level.
