E-bike, the Great Equalizer

I love my road bike and I love touring! Very fast I have never been, but I have always enjoyed cycling longer distances. In contrast, after multiple neck surgeries, my husband was no longer enjoying rides of much more than 10-15 miles on his hybrid bike. End of story for an active outdoor couple? Not at all - enter: THE E-BIKE!
My husband purchased an e
-bike (Bulls, a German make) from Mikes Bike Shop in Palatine two years ago and never looked back! Now, he's delighted to ride, 30, 40, even 70 miles with me, all while maintaining a big, wide grin. In fact, he's happily become my Sherpa, enabling me to stay light on my ride while he effortlessly schleps the extra weight - lunch, locks and clothing for the both of us. It's very easy for him to adjust his speed to match mine regardless of the conditions - up and down steep hills, on flat terrain and across crushed limestone.
Last year, we completed a four-day, 280-mile ride through the Baraboo hill country, urban Madison and rural roads of Wisconsin. Each night he was able to recharge his battery at our hotel. Each day he was never at risk of running out of juice while out on the road.
His e-bike has been a game changer, not just for him but for the two of us. Once again we are able to appreciate bike touring together.
